Ayurveda is a traditional Indian medical system (comparable to traditional Chinese medicine) based on a holistic approach to health.

                            Prof. G. D. Sumanapala (popular name is Sumanapala Galmangoda) was a Senior Professor and the Chair of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka from 1981 to 2017. He obtained B.A. (Hons.), M. A. and PhD degrees from the same university. In addition to his service at the University of Kelaniya, he has served one year as the Director and Lecturer at the Wickramarachchji Ayurvedic Institute, University of Kelaniya and seven years as the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya. He also has passed the Royal Pandit degree with Pali, Sinhala and Sanskrit. He has participated and has presented papers in Buddhist Ayurvedic Psychiatry and Counselling at more than seventy international seminars held in various countries. He has published more than thirty books and nearly 100 research articles in Sinhala and English covering the subjects Pali, Sanskrit, Buddhist Philosophy and Culture, Ayurveda, Astrology and Research Methodology. He also has published Pali and Sanskrit poems on Buddhist Philosophy. Vimsatika including twenty Sanskrit verses is one of them. He is a member of the director board of the Sanchi University of Buddhist Indic Studies, India and Executive Council member of the International Association of Buddhist Universities, Bangkok.
                            In 2013 he got registration from the Ayurvedic Medical Council, Sri Lanka as a general sector under the Registered No. 14151.
                            At present he serves as the course Coordinator and member of the council and the Dean of the Faculty of Traditional Systems of Medicine at the Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (degree awarding institute), Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
